Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (2 oz.)
- 2 tablespoons butter, softened
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- Coarse salt, if desired
- Heat oven to 400 degrees. Grease cookie sheet with shortening or spay with cooking spray.
- Ina bowl, mix all ingredients except egg and coarse salt with a fork. On lightly floured surface, gently smooth dough into a ball. Knead 10 times. Divide dough in half.
- Roll 1/2 of the dough into a 12 x 8 inch rectangle. Cut rectangle lengthwise into eight 1 inch strips. Make each strip narrower by folding it in half lengthwise. Pinch edges to seat. Twist each strip into a pretzel shape and place, seam side down, on cookie sheet.
- In a small bowl, beat egg with fork. Brush egg over pretzels; sprinkle lightly with coarse salt.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Repeat with remaining half of dough.
