Please share your favorite cake recipes. I've never been pleased with the cakes I've made from scratch. My son's first birthday is coming up and I want to improve my cake baking skills. It can be chocolate, white, carrot cake, etc. If you have a recipe you like, please post it.
And if you have a yummy healthy cake recipe (zucchini added in, applesauce instead of sugar, that sort of thing), please post that too.
oh i am sooooo very interested too! i have only made a few cakes from scratch and they were good, but i wouldn't run around recommending them or anything.

I have made this recipe for chocolate cake many many times and it is my absolute favorite recipe for chocolate cake! It's super moist and as chocolaty as you want it to be.

Instead of the boiling water I used scalded milk and I melt 2 bars of Ghiradelli chocolate (whichever ones you prefer). I find the best way to melt the chocolate is by putting a metal bowl over a pan of hot water on the stove.
Oh and this banana cake was yummy:

Well I have a good chocolate cake recipe but that's covered... White cakes are my archenemy! I have tried many many recipes and never had one turn out (they are either dry dry or greasy and flat---stinking 7000 feet). I'll rummage through my recipes and see if I can remember anything fab. I did make a raspberry cream cheese filling the other day that was pretty stellar.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the vote of confidence Steph! I fear you all have the wrong idea about my culinary skills... haha
i have a good carrot cake and also an amazing chocolate cake recipe. stay tuned...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite chocolate cake recipe is the Hershey's chocolate cake recipe because it taste's delicious and is only slightly harder than a mix. I've made complicated cake recipes that don't taste any better. Go to Hershey's website and it is the "Perfectly Chocolate" Chocolate cake. You won't be disappointed. And the frosting is great too.
ReplyDeleteMy other favorite when I don't want chocolate is the baby food cake, which I always love to not reveal the name and just let them know their are a few secret ingredients. The recipe is as follows:
3 eggs
1 c sugar (mine calls for 2 cups but 1 c. is plenty!)
1 1/4 c. veg. oil
2 c. flour (I have often replaced 3/4 or even 1 c. with whole wheat pastry flour and it works fine)
2 t. baking soda
1 t. salt
1 small jar of each baby food: applesauce, carrot and apricot (or peach if you can't find apricot)
350 degrees baked in a 9x13 pan for about 25 minutes. You can change your pan size of course and just change your cooking time too.
The frosting for this is cream cheese: 8 oz. cream cheese, 1 lb. powdered sugar, 1 stick butter, 1 t. vanilla
This recipe is a hit! I always get asked for the recipe when I make it.
OOOooo, sounds good! Keep the recipes coming!
